Focal Dystonia is a condition that affects at least 1 in every 100 musicians. It is categorised by the loss of fine motor control in the hands or embouchure.

Separate areas of the brain that control different movements become blurred or overlap.

 

The brains ability to make these kind of changes is reffered to as      

 

  • dramatic change in technique

  • practising under stress and anxiety

  • some kind of nerve entrapment

  • pyschological trauma
