Barbara Conable was an Alexander Technique teacher for over thirty years. She developed a concept of 'body 'mapping'. A system where the body refines it's propreoceptive sense, so to perform effortlessly and avoid injury. She introduces these ideas in her book, 'What Every Musician Needs to Know about the Body'.
These same ideas are included in this interview, and should be essential reading for any musician. In this article she combines her ideas about the body with research by Nancy Byl, to give an effective training plan to 'beat' focal dystonia. She can be contacted via Andover Educators, an organisation Conable set up to train musicians to teach her techniques and ideas. Their website includes many useful articles about musicians health.
